Jessiah |
Lisa, a friend of mine, emailed recently to ask for prayers for her nephew Jessiah. You can read his story in the news here.
Jessiah had the surgery and everything went well. Below is Lisa's latest email. Feel free to send up your own prayers for this family.
The surgery was scheduled for yesterday (Sept 11) at noon California time. The surgeon decided he wanted the absolute best anesthesiologist team available so by the time they all gathered it was 2pm. The surgery began and lasted longer than expected. My mom called me at bed time to let me know Jessiah was still in surgery, I prayed myself to sleep.
This morning I called my mom first thing. My brother in law called her at 1am our time to tell her the surgery when very well and they removed both kidneys. The doctors told my sister that he had NEVER seen kidney so big (the disease causes them to keep growing, they were larger than adult kidneys....I affectionately called Jessiahs belly a budah belly)
The miracle. Although it usually takes the body a few days to adjust God stepped in. The new kidney started to make urine RIGHT AWAY! awesome...not only does the body accept it but it works too!
My mom called and let a voice message this afternoon while i was at work. My brother in law called at 10:30 our time...this is only about 8-10 hours after surgery, to let my mom know that Jessiah was sitting up and happily watching cartoons. My other nephew Zacc, Jessiahs cousin, was also up and about walking around but was suffering some pain. From what I have learned the transplant is harder on the donor than on the recipient.
Thank you all for praying, please continue to do so. A quick recovery with no complications would be the cherry on top of Gods SONday :) a bonus would be that the Ronald McDonald house lets them stay as long as needed. Labels: friends, kids, prayer |

Kids, Compton & Christmas |
I was just checking a student's references on a Rap History project she did & discovered this great website created by the police of Compton. I was particularly moved by the letter from Maria: http://www.comptonpolicegangs.com/faqs.htm
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bryan created this wonderful Christmas video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1S-YbgCRa4&eurl= He does such a good job with this sort of thing! But, the video makes me cry so I can't watch it very often.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I've been pretty weepy lately. Thinking about how much I'll miss my mom & all the things she & my kids will miss out on. Starting to tear up now, so I'll change the subject.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I convinced Xavier to ride the bus to school yesterday AND today! I gave him the choice both mornings (ride the bus or have me drive him.) He likes having the option. I weight it in favor of the bus by telling him that I can play or read stories if we're waiting for the bus, but if I'm driving him, then I have to clean the kitchen before we leave. That does it. He just wants those few minutes of my time in the morning. ~~If I have to get in the car & drive I feel like I can't leave the house until all the oatmeal is scraped off the counter & the dishes are in the dishwasher. (Don't want to come home to mice or, worse, cockroaches! eeeeewwwww!!!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have this weird psychological thing, that when I think about bugs, my nose itches. When Bryan wants to torture me he'll sit there & say "bugs" over & over. Makes me nuts!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our neighbors, Keri & Jason gave us a CD "Some Rockin' for Your Stockin" that is awesome! I have been dancing around the kitchen to it for the last couple of days. (Hopefully, no one has seen me through the window. LOL)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finished the Shawnee UMC website. There are a few bugs that I have to work out yet & I still need to get information from church staff for a few pages, but it's up & I think it's not too bad. I got an email from an acquaintance back in Lima who wants me to create an eCommerce site for her jewelry business. Maybe that's my niche: churches & jewelry. lol
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eli is sleeping on me right now. I have to say that I've gotten pretty good at typing with one hand. I dare say, I'm a better one-handed typer than some two-handed typers. Or maybe not. lol
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Max made up this joke: What color is a penguin? Blight! (If you don't get it, ask a 7-year-old.)Labels: friends, kids, My Mom |

The story of the Dead Bird |
OK, this isn't what I planned for my first blog post to be about, but Blogger will only let you write 150 characters in response to their crazy question. (See my complete profile if you're confused.) Anyway, 150 characters is not nearly enough to explain the complexity of the whole experience of bringing a dead bird to school in the third grade. So, here's the rest of the story... I found a dead, frozen bird when I was walking to school one time in third grade. I kept it on my desk all day (even made it stand up to say the Pledge of Allegiance) because I was certain that it wasn't dead - it was just too cold to move. But, alas, my classroom wasn't warm enough to thaw the bird. I wrapped my poor bird in my scarf to bring home at the end of the school day. I don't remember what happened to the bird (most likely my Dad pitched it in the trash) but to this day I am amazed and thankful that my third grade teacher was sensitive to my heart. She asked me why I had the bird that day, and after I explained I was thawing the bird so she could fly again, my teacher, Mrs. Brown, never said one more word about that crazy dead bird on my desk. I know there are issues with germs and all that, but Mrs. Brown understood that childhood innocence, faith, hope and curiosity were much more important than adult concerns that day. I hope & pray that I can be that kind of adult.Labels: friends, kids, life of a mom, tragedy |
